Not long ago, the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year began at Walter Reed Middle School. Everyone started getting back into the groove of school after the long three week winter break. There are some exciting events that you should look forward to as the spring semester moves along.
8th graders' culmination will be on Wednesday June 10th, so keep your grades up and fines down. Continue to work hard and have fun in your last semester at Walter Reed. Because of culmination, we will have a reverse minimum day. This means school starts at 10:25, but still ends at the normal time, 3:08.
The second semester also brings more I-Ready testing. You will be expected to complete the math and English Middle of Year (MOY) and End of Year (EOY) diagnostic tests. As always, the expectation is that students have 45 minutes and around 1-2 lessons of BOTH subjects every week.
Remember the Turkey Bowl from last semester? Well, this semester brings another fun sports game to Reed. That would be soccer, in the Bunny Bowl. If soccer is your thing, look out for Mr. Miranda, and he will give you more information about how to sign up to compete in the Bunny Bowl. Practices would follow the schedule of Tuesdays for 8th grade, Wednesdays for 7th grade, and Thursdays for 6th grade at lunch on the field. Walter Reed’s band will also perform more game time tunes while you watch!
Reed’s Leadership team will put together grams that are for sale for Valentine’s Day. You can buy them for yourself, a friend, or a classmate. Valentine’s Grams are a great way to show a liking or appreciation towards another person.
The spring semester also brings a few holidays off, and of course, spring break. February presents a 3 day weekend with Monday the 16th being President’s Day. In early April, spring break will start. It is from March 30 to April 3 of no school, so relax for the week and come back ready to finish the year strong. Later, on April 24, we have a 4 day week of school, with Friday being off because of Armenian Genocide Day. On May 25, Reed recognizes Memorial Day, centered towards honoring the fallen soldiers that served our country, with a day off.
Students with music electives at Reed will also have their final concerts for the year. 7th grade students will prepare for their Knott’s Berry Farms field trip, and 8th graders will practice for their overnight San Francisco trip. Reed will host the 6th grade final concert in the auditorium, showcasing the improvement from the winter concert. 7th and 8th graders will also have their last two concerts of the year.
The second semester at Walter Reed will bring many fun times as the year heads to an end. Time will fly by and we will be on summer break before you know it. Finish the school year strong and enjoy the second semester at Reed.
