Grading
General Grading
I generally base my 4, 3,2, 1 scores on the following scale:
100% (4+) 99% - 95%(4) 94%-90% (4-)
89% - 88% (3+) 87% - 75% (3) 74% - 70% (3-)
69% - 68% (2+) 67% - 51% (2) 50% - 0% (1)
Google Gradebook
You may check your overall score in each subject in Google Classroom.
Go to the Google Class you wish to view.
Select Classwork
Select View your work (upper left corner)
You will see the overall percentage you are earning in that subject.
You will see a list of every assignment and the score you earned.
If the score is 0, it is a missing assignment. You need to complete it.
If you look at the gradebook tab in the class course, you will see what category I made each assignment. This is because I weight different categories to get an overall grade. A test is worth more weight than a class assignment.
If there is no category assigned, it means I do not count the work toward your overall grade. For example, the beginning of the year Reading Assessment has no category, as it was just for me to assess where you started at in reading comprehension.
View Individual Graded Assignments
(How to See What You Got Correct/Incorrect on Your Work)
Go back to the assignment box inside the class. You will need to do this on a computer since the app does not have this function.
Select View Assignment. To see what you got correct/incorrect, you will need to open up YOUR actual work. You will see YOUR work inside a smaller box on the right side AFTER you have selected View Assignment. (If you do not select View Assignment, you will only see a blank document with no answers or you will get a message that you have already completed it.)
If an assignment is a Google Document, I often highlight sections and add comments to the right side. Please read the comments so you can see how to improve your work for the next assignment. The points earned for each question and any other comments will also be posted.
Google Forms will show you point totals and correct/incorrect answers for each question.
After the due date has passed and I score an assignment, I move it to the "Graded Work" category in each class.
If you wish to review an assignment that has already been scored, you will find it in this category.
If you need to complete a missing assignment after the due date, look for it in this category.
Grades for Assignments Completed OUTSIDE of Google Classroom
There will be scores for assignments completed OUTSIDE of Google classroom.
I still input the grades into Google Classroom so that you always have a current view of the overall score in each subject.
You will receive these assignments in the Corrected Work Envelope.
There is nothing you need to mark or turn in for these assignments, even though Google Classroom may say "not turned in." If you see a score with "not turned in," that means the work was completed and graded OUTSIDE of Google Classroom.
Google Documents and Comments
If an assignment is a Google Document, I often highlight sections and add comments to the right side.
Please read the comments so you can see how to improve your work for the next assignment.
If you check your scores on a phone, you will not be able to see the comments. It is better to use a laptop or computer to check your scores.
The phone may limit the information you can see about each assignment, like how many points it is worth overall.
Rubrics on Google Assignments
If I attach a rubric to a Google Assignment:
The rubric shows the number of points each section is worth and how many points you earned.
You can click on each section of the rubric to see what you were asked to write and how I determined points.
If I made any comments about certain sections, those comments will be found either next to the question/section or at the bottom of the rubric in the "Private Comment" box.
If you need to complete a missing assignment after the due date, look for it in this category.
Why are some answers on my Google Form assignment marked RED when I got them correct?
This happens with answers where you have to type sentences or write out equations.
The Google Form will only mark it GREEN (correct) if you type the EXACT words and numbers in the EXACT order as the answer key.
I read your answers. If you get it correct, I give you all of the points for the question. If you get it partially correct, I give some of the points. If no part of it is correct, I give 0 points.
Even if I give you ALL of the points for the question, it will stay RED, which makes it look like it's wrong. Therefore, you should look at the POINTS I gave you.
Why can't I see what I got wrong on a Google Form?
Please read the "View Individual Graded Assignments" section near the top of this page
Accelerated Reader Scores
(If you earned 10 points)
I give you a score out of 10 points. However, this score is based on your overall PERCENTAGE achievement on quizzes for the month, NOT the number of points you earned.
For example:
If you earned 10 points and achieved an overall 85% accuracy, I gave you 8.5 points. If you achieved an overall 97% accuracy, I gave you 9.7 points.
(If you did NOT earn 10 points)
If you did not earn 10 points,I multiply the percentage of the goal you read by your accuracy.
For example:
If you had 85% accuracy but earned only 4 points, I gave you 3.4 points (8.5 x 40%= 3.4) because you only completed 40% of the goal).
Reading/Vocabulary Test Scores
Reading and Vocabulary Tests that are given on paper receive two scores. Both scores will be posted on the front of the test. One score is for the Reading Comprehension portion and is identified as C. The other score is for the Vocabulary portion and is identified as V.
Spelling/ Grammar Scores
For Spelling Grammar tests, you will be given two scores. Both scores will be posted on the front of the test. One score is for the Grammar portion and is identified as G. The other score is for the Spelling portion and is identified as Sp. The points for Grammar will vary, while the Spelling grades will be assigned using the following scale:
0 - 4 errors = 4 5 - 10 errors = 3 11 - 15 errors = 2 16+ errors = 1
I can't find a graded assignment!
Certain categories in Google Class may have a long list of graded work. If you are unable to find a graded assignment or test, the list may just be too long for your computer screen to show everything.
Click View More (can be located at the top of the list or at the bottom of the list) and you will see the whole list of assignments.
