Activities

Organizations & Clubs

DVMA students participate in SkillsUSA, a national, career readiness organization. As members, students develop leadership and career skills and participate in competitions. A student run “Makers Club” meets outside of class to collaborate on making objects.

Special Projects and Facilities

Our studio has exciting tools for students to expand their studies in design, including: 3D Printing, Laser Engraving, Arduino and Code projects, Pro-level digital printing for posters, stickers, garments, buttons and more.

Field Trips

GHS Design students have the opportunity to go on at least one yearly fieldtrip to a cultural institution. We have visited the Getty Center, the Skirball Center, the Norton Simon Museum and the International Printing Museum.

Articulation & Certification

The GHS Design Studio is articulated with LAVC's art department. Students can earn up to 9 units of college credit. Students can also earn Adobe certification in Photoshop and Illustrator.

Community

Students are involved with the community through guest speakers, activities and special projects. For example, we playtested for the Shoah Foundation's "Dimensions in Testimony", and USC Game lab's "Mission:Admission." We make altars for our school's Dia de los Muertos events, and participate in various presentations.

GHS Chalk Art Festival

Since it's first year in 2011, the Chalk Art Festival at Grant HS became an treasured tradition. Each Spring the Grant school community comes together and creates beautiful chalk art in the heart of campus. Once a production sponsored by Grant's Center for Performing and Visual Arts, it is now a labor of love coordinated by Ms. Dozois and Ms. Blumenberg. GHSDesign students volunteer to help run the event as well as participate in the art-making.

* The 2020 festival was cancelled due to Covid-19 closures.
