The Drill Team competes in events such as armed and unarmed drill, exhibition drill, and color guard. Members also form the core of the Academics and Athletics Teams. Competitions involve precise, graded routines performed within a designated area, evaluated by NJROTC instructors and military personnel.
Open to NS2, NS3, and NS4 cadets. Requires at least 16 cadets (8 male, 8 female) with current physical evaluations. Must have passed the fitness test. Drill cord and ribbon may be awarded after three competitions.

Orienteers compete for the best time on woodland courses of varying difficulty, using only a map, compass, and land navigation skills. This sport combines cross-country running with navigation, requiring endurance, time management, and safety awareness.
Open to NS2, NS3, and NS4 cadets. Requires at least 15 cadets with current physical evaluations. Must have passed the fitness test. Drill cord and ribbon may be awarded after three competitions.
Top-performing cadets who advance in rank and excel may earn a competitive spot at Leadership Academy, scheduled for Summer 2026 at The Citadel in Charleston, SC.
This selective, high-intensity program challenges cadets beyond the classroom, sharpening the leadership skills they've built in JROTC. It’s a transformative experience—widely regarded as a milestone in a cadet’s growth and development.
Sail Academy is a weeklong, hands-on program where cadets learn basic seamanship, small boat sailing, racing, and teamwork.
Held at Joint Base Charleston’s MWR facility on Lake Moultrie, the academy is led by certified NJROTC sailing instructors and offers a safe, challenging, and rewarding experience—both on and off the water.
Each summer, the U.S. Navy offers fully funded scholarships for qualified NJROTC cadets to attend an eight-week collegiate flight program at a participating university.
Cadets selected for this highly competitive opportunity can earn their FAA Private Pilot Certificate (PPC) at no cost—an exceptional launchpad for a future in aviation.

The U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a great first step toward becoming one of our nation’s future leaders. If you're a high school junior considering the Naval Academy, we encourage you to apply.
This six-day program gives you a firsthand look at life as a midshipman. You’ll live in Bancroft Hall, attend academic and leadership workshops, and experience the Academy’s top-ranked academic, athletic, and professional training.
Your Summer Seminar application also serves as your preliminary application to the Academy. The program fee is $550.

Open to high school students, the program offers an exciting introduction to science, technology, engineering, and math—all in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The session fee is $750, and the experience is priceless.
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) places high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Department of Navy (DoN) labs for eight weeks of hands-on summer research. Interns work on real Naval projects and receive mentorship from top scientists and engineers, all while earning a competitive stipend of up to $4,500.
SEAP is highly selective, with about 300 placements at over 38 labs nationwide. Applicants are chosen based on academic performance, personal statements, recommendations, and interest in STEM and Naval research. Many participants go on to pursue careers within the Department of the Navy.
SAME (Society of American Military Engineers) Camps offer world-class experiences that inspire future engineers and STEM leaders. With a strong track record of shaping successful STEM professionals, these camps provide a challenging, hands-on environment for students ready to explore science, technology, engineering, and math.
Campers gain real insight into STEM careers and receive clear guidance on navigating the path from high school to college and beyond. Each camp features engaging projects, real-world challenges, and a mix of teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving—building skills essential for future success.
