Personal and Professional Skills is designed to help students to develop those attitudes, skills and strategies that can be applied in a range of personal and professional situations and contextsm now and in the future. In this course the emphasis is on skills development for the both university and the workplace, as these are transferable and can be applied in a range of situations.
The Reflective Project affords students the opportunity to explore an ethical issue which particularly interests them, and to develop skills which will be of value to them in their academic future. It is an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period, taking a variety of formats and submitted towards the end of the CP. This is the only component of the IBCP Core which is externally assessed by the IB.
Service Learning provides opportunities for students to understand their capacity to make a meaningful contribution to their community and society. Through service learning, students develop and apply academic knowledge, personal skills and social skills in real-life situations involving decision-making, problem-solving, initiative, responsibility and accountability for their actions. The purpose is for students to contribute to society by improving the lives of people or assisting the environment or animals.
Language Development is a compulsory element in the IBCP Core, designed to ensure that all students have access to, and are exposed to, a second language that will assist and further their understanding of the wider world. The course aims to provide students with the necessary skills and intercultural understanding to enable them to communicate in an environment where the language studied is spoken: students will develop the transferable linguistic skills necessary to succeed in the globalised employment market or in successfully applying to higher education institutions. Language development is a non-examined course. Instead, students work on developing a language portfolio.
