Education can always be returned to. As lifelong learners you will have to continually develop, adapt and grow your skills in order to be successful in your chosen path. Careers for life no longer exist and you need to be ready for the jobs of the future!
There are three main routes at Post 18:
A) University
B) Apprenticeship
C) Full time employment
Some students may take a gap year before commencing one of the above routes. This may include working, volunteering, travelling or pursuing a special interest.
Advice for Year 12 students:
1) Start researching your options now so you can explore multiple pathways before you decide. You can use Unifrog to do this. Visit: https://www.unifrog.org/
2) Start visiting open days for universities and employers, including virtual events, to keep informed and build up your knowledge of possible next steps.
3) Ensure you are looking at courses and apprenticeships at the right level so they challenge and develop you. For most sixth formers, this is likely to be Level 4 qualifications.
4) Book an appointment with our independent careers advisors or speak to the National Careers Service Helpline.
5) Take part in extra curricular opportunities to build your knowledge and ks in areas of interest.
6) Speak to your parents/ guardians about your research options and show them your Unifrog activity so they can support you in exploring career options. They will be able to support you in considering key decisions.

Wednesday 15th October 2025 - UCAS Early entry deadline for Oxford/ Cambridge, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary
Wednesday 14th January 2026 - UCAS equal consideration deadline for starting university in September 2026.

For university typically, you should be applying for Level 6 or 7 Degree courses.
For apprenticeships typically, you should be applying for Higher or Degree level as natural progression from your current studies.
