Los Alamos JJAB Working Resource List for COVID-19 Shutdown

The Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) has compiled a working resource list. Click here to read more.

PEEC

PEEC is still operating, and we are here to support you with online and offline learning in the coming months. We are able to keep operating in part thanks to Los Alamos County, which continues to make payments on our contract. A primary reason they work with us is in order to support our work with the Los Alamos Public Schools.

We have already produced content specifically for the closure, including:

  • our online Take It Outside program: to date, three weeks' worth of content and simple outdoor activities about birds, signs of spring, and native four-footed animals

  • a paper nature journal that we distributed at grab & go lunch pick-up sites

Our field trips for the duration of the closure are canceled (sad!), but there are still things we can do:

  • Guest lessons about nature and science

  • Virtual field trips (Where do you want us to take you? Local natural sites, backyard expeditions, PEEC critters, Dept of Public Utilities sites, etc.)

  • Connect you with local experts on nature/science topics.

  • Online talks. Our online public talks about natural history and astronomy could be interesting for older students.

  • Publish students' created content. This is a great way for students to produce work for a real community audience. We have already published a blog post by a LAPS 5th grader, and would love to publish more blog posts or art work about local nature topics by classes, individual students, or groups.

  • Provide reference materials. We have comprehensive online nature guides to local species, rocks, and other things.

Los Alamos YMCA

In the community effort to work together and help reduce the impact of COVID-19, we have decided to close our facility to the public effective Monday March 16th, 2020. For current updates on the status of the YMCA, go to: https://laymca.org/
