Welcome from the Barranca Office Team!
Hello Barranca Families!
We hope you are having a wonderful summer! While I know there are still a few weeks left, I wanted to share a few important back-to-school updates.
Our front office team is officially back, and the school building is now open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you have registration paperwork or other documents that need to be dropped off before the school year begins, please feel free to stop by anytime during office hours.
Please save the date for our Meet the Teacher & School Supply Drop-Off on Friday, August 7, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. Class lists will be posted at 2:00 p.m. on the front outside doors of the school. Preschool and kindergarten class lists will be posted on Early Childhood outside doors (the front doors closest to the pool). Grades 1st through 6th class lists will be posted on both the lobby and the gym front outside doors. This is a great opportunity for students to meet their teacher, see their classroom, and drop off school supplies before the first day of school.
You can find the 2026/2027 school supply lists attached below.
All students should come with a backpack, a refillable water bottle, and a pair of headphones. Please put your child's name on all these items and any outerwear (jackets, coats) so they are easily identifiable.
If your family needs assistance obtaining school supplies, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school counselor, Ms. Romero, a.romero2@laschools.net. We want to ensure every student has what they need for a successful start to the school year.
Our teachers and staff will return to the building on August 3, and they are excited to begin preparing their classrooms and getting everything ready to welcome students back for another amazing year at Barranca!
The first day of school for Kindergarten through 6th grade is on Monday, August 10th. PreK's first day of school will be on Wednesday, August 12th. I will send a more detailed newsletter with additional information as the start of school gets closer.
Early Bird Club will start on Monday, August 10th. Drop-off is 7:30-7:45 am. The program is for students who need to be at school early due to parent work schedules and students may only attend if registered. Otherwise students should not arrive at school until 7:55 am. You must complete a registration form for your student(s) to participate, click here.
LAPS provides bus service for all Los Alamos County elementary students who live at least 1 mile from the school. Los Alamos County residents should click on the link to access the 2026-2027 Student Bus Card, 2026-2027 Student Bus Card. Please complete a Student Bus Card for each student that may ride the bus. Students without a bus card will not be allowed to ride.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
