Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the inaugural year of our school’s completely online program - The Topper Virtual Academy (TVA). Students will be assigned a class schedule based on the offerings within the TVA schedule. While this will be different from the schedule in the standard High School program, we’re excited to embrace the opportunity that the new format presents.
All courses in TVA will be delivered through the Edgenuity online platform, which combines curriculum tailored to the NM Standards and Benchmarks and instructional support from local teachers. The course requests you made during our registration days last February will be changed to reflect the courses available this year through the Topper Virtual Academy. All students will be provided with courses that meet graduation requirements and allow progress toward graduation, within our tightly coordinated series of offerings.
Please look at the chart below to determine what courses will be assigned to you for the 2020-2021 school year. The administrators of the academy will be selecting the courses you will take from this chart according to your individual requirements for graduation. We are preparing class schedules for all of our TVA students, and hope to make schedules available by Monday, August 10.
Electives will be selected from this list based on unmet graduation requirements.
NM History
Health
Computer Science
Psychology
Academic Skills Lab (Required for all students Fall Sem)
Unsupervised Periods are available for Juniors and Seniors, following LAHS requirements:
A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
Passing all classes the semester prior to the request
Juniors – a minimum of 12 credits earned towards graduation requirements
Seniors – a minimum of 18 credits earned towards graduation requirements
While all curriculum for courses in the Topper Virtual Academy is provided through the Edgenuity platform, the school will also issue physical textbooks to students to use as a reference. Textbooks can be picked up during the High School Drive Thru Registration process, just as with the standard high school program.
Please contact Renee Dunwoody 505-663-2516 or a r.dunwoody@laschools.net with questions. If you would like to change your request to be included in the Topper Virtual Academy and remain in the standard LAHS courses, we can accommodate your request up to 8 AM on Wednesday August 5. We will be dropping all TVA students course requests in the standard LAHS program at that time.
Thank you, and we look forward to embarking on this exciting new learning journey together!
