Our team

Our school, "Ciro Scianna", is located in Bagheria, 15 kilometres from Palermo. It is a junior secondary school with special music courses, which includes 88 teachers and 726 students, as well as 15 administrative and technical assistants. The students are from different socio-cultural backgrounds and there are few immigrant students (5 in all from: Venezuela, Tunisia and Bangladesh). There are 47 students with disabilities, of which fifteen with severe problems. The pupils with special needs are 35 in total. Disabled students and special needs’ students make up 11.3% of the school population. The inclusive education also foresees the use of a ceramic laboratory. The school dropout rate is 1% thanks to the implementation of several projects based on inclusion activities. The musical instrument lessons are carried out in the afternoon and 87 students can choose among guitar, trumpet, piano, horn and sax. The percentage of students included in the music courses are 12%.

Great attention is given to foreign languages with the possibility to get Trinity and DELF certifications. The school has been registered for years on the platform eTwinning and several projects received the European Quality Label.

The teachers are also engaged in training courses about new teaching methods, digital skills, inclusive education and language enhancement. Two years ago, with an Erasmus project KA1 18 teachers and our headmistress had the opportunity to attend training courses about digital skills and English language enhancement in several EU countries.
