Ten Delicious Teachers by Ross Montgomery

Reviewed by Owls Class

Ten silly teachers have missed the last bus home. They decide to take a shortcut through the forest! They think they are going on an adventure but ten monsters are waiting in the forest.

We really enjoyed this counting and rhyming book! We liked all the monsters in different colours and the fact that they ate the teachers! We spent time looking for the monsters who were hiding and loved the ending where the monsters went to school!

The Penguin who Wanted to Find Out’

by Jill Tomlinson

Reviewed by Isabella Slough and

Annabel Vickery

The book is about a baby penguin chick called Otto. He was the first chick to be born and the book is about him learning how to grow into a big penguin.

He meets other penguins called Alex and Gusto on the way to being grown up. He meets ‘Pup’ the Weddell seal too and learns to swim and feed himself.

We like this book because ‘it is full of characters’ (Isabella) and ‘it’s inspiring because you want to find out what happens next’. (Annabel)

The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me

By Roald Dahl

Reviewed by Logan Coote

This is a really funny book, I've been reading it at home. It's about a boy called Billy and he has a window cleaning company with a monkey, a pelican and a giraffe. They actually clean the windows! Billy wants to own a sweet shop and the animals help him. There is a clever bit in the book where they sell chocolates made at Willy Wonka’s factory. This is taken from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book. It was fun spotting that. I enjoyed reading the book and it’s great because it has good pictures in it too.

Journey to Jo'burg by Beverley Naidoo

Reviewed by Sophie Braithwaite (Year 6)

Naledi's baby sister was ill and needed her Mma. Her Mma worked in Johanesburg so Naledi and her brother Tiro started their walk. They noticed an orange farm on the way so they got lots of oranges. Someone drove them to Jo'burg, they got their Mma and headed home. Luckily, their sister was still alive.

My favourite part was when they found the orange farm because it made me happy when they found it because they would have starved and died themselves if they didn't find it.

You should read this story because it is very inspiring because it tells you what life is like during Apartheid in South Africa.
