Principal's Message:

Before my usual Principal's Message, I would like to provide an update to our community about Mr Smith. I know that some of our families will have been witness to the fall he had on Thursday morning resulting him being taken to hospital. I am pleased to share that, despite still being in hospital, Mr Smith is ok and in very safe hands. We've had lots of contact with him and had lots of updates. I have shared the well wishes from staff, parents and children and it has certainly lifted his spirits. We can't wait to have him back soon when he is on the mend!

Despite Mr Smith's fall, it has otherwise been a brilliant week with lots going on.

We have had most of our wonderful Year 6 pupils away on their residential trip to PGL this week. If you follow our Facebook page you will see what an amazing time they have all had. We will be pleased to have them back and hear all about their adventures. A huge thank you to the Mr Dodds, Mr Monaco, Mrs Hales, Miss Everett and Miss Gibbs for looking after the children so well and for making this such a special experience for them.

Sports Day practice is well underway. The children are really looking forward to showing off their "sporting prowess". Mr Humphrey will be sending out further information about the day imminently.

I would also like to extend my thanks to the various positive messages, thanks and support from parents this week on a variety of different matters. It is encouraging to have positive feedback from our community and can certainly make the day of a hardworking (and probably very tired) teacher.

Finally, we have noticed a few deviations from our uniform and equipment policy as we near the end term, some of which has been addressed this week already. That being said, we have noticed an increasing number of children wearing polo shirts as part of both their PE uniform and their academy uniform. Polo shirts are not part of the academy uniform and therefore should not be worn unless pre-agreed for very specific reasons with the academy. Our uniform policy stipulates that children should wear either a button down shirt or blouse and for PE a white (plain or with academy logo) round-necked t-shirt. Furthermore, I have also seen an increase in girls wearing hooped earrings to school. Again, these are a prohibited item on our uniform list as they pose a particular health and safety risk. In addition to this, we are experiencing some disagreements between children as a result of items they are bringing in from home, for example, Air Up bottles, Prime bottles, football cards, pokemon cards and toys. Please ensure that your child is not bringing in anything like this from home to prevent them from being a distraction to learning and within friendship groups.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Miss Brading

Office Reminders:

We have been contacted once again by local residents who are concerned about the speed that some of our parents and carers are travelling along Edmett Way, as well as in and out of the academy car park.

Please note that the legal speed limit on Edmett Way is 20mph and the speed limit in the academy car park is 5mph. We would ask that you observe and respect these for they are in place for the safety of all pupils, parents/carers, staff and visitors to the academy.  Furthermore, we ask that care is taken at the junction of Edmett Way, Reynolds Avenue and our car park, particularly if there are children closeby who may be about to enter or exit the academy on foot, scooters or bikes. Please do not assume that you have right of way as there was a very worrying incident this morning that narrowly avoided two vehicles colliding head on.

We would also like to remind you that scooters and bikes should not be ridden on site by children of any ages, regardless of whether or not they attend the academy. Children should dismount at the gate and walk in, and not ride again until outside the gates once more.

Thank you for your cooperation with the above.

Contacting the class teachers:

If you have concerns that you would like to raise with the academy, please do so via the office email address which is contactus@langleyparkprimaryacademy.org.uk. Upon receipt, your email will be directed to the relevant member(s) of staff.

We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to Mrs McRobb, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.

We are also aware that some parents continue to email staff directly. In the event that this happens, staff have been asked to forward your email to the aforementioned email address to resume communication via the correct channels.

Anime is one of the most popular forms of media in the modern world. Fans span across multiple generations - with a particular emphasis on young people in the west, to whom the unique art style and over-the-top presentation greatly appeal. Anime takes many forms, from movies to video games - but is most commonly presented in TV shows.

The cartoonish art style of anime can lead people to assume that all media of this type is child-friendly. Whilst a good amount of anime does indeed fit this description, there is just as much - if not more - that centres around deeply adult themes and topics, with scenes of extreme gore, disturbing horror and sexual content. The below guide delves deep into the cultural phenomenon of anime, identifying all risks parents and carers should be aware of.
