English

This term we have launched spelling shed across Keys stage 2. One of the most complex and challenging areas of the national curriculum is spelling and this is partly due to the complexity of the English language. Within our language we have words that originate from France, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Latin.

Spelling Shed is a game-like educational platform. The aim of it is to support the teaching and learning of spelling using the relationship between sounds and written symbols, and also using morphology to help spelling through meaning. This builds on children's knowledge of phonics from EYFS and KS1. Children are taught specific 'rules' and 'patterns' and are then able to apply these through their writing across the PYP as well as using spelling shed to actively teach, support and consolidate their knowledge without formal testing.

Shown above are some of the games children can play to practise their spelling.

Recommended Reads

A new feature within the English section of the weekly academy newsletter will be to highlight a few books each half term that we feel your children will love. There is a wide range of high quality books currently being released.

The hope is that this section will help to further promote a love of reading across our school community as well as give children and parents/carers ideas and suggestions from the rich variety of books being published each month for children to read and enjoy either on their own or with their family.

This week, we recommend:
