Cookery Corner

The children have enjoyed another week of cooking classes across the school. Miss Brading has been hearing a lot of talk about the wonderful things that the children have been learning and is so pleased that they are trying out some of the recipes at home. This is a great thing for us to be hearing as our entire community is getting involved in cooking.

Apple and Blackberry Crumble

(Serves 4)

  • 60g golden caster sugar

  • 60g unsalted butter at room temperature, cut into pieces

  4. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until lightly coloured.

  5. Meanwhile, to make he compote, peel, core and cut 300g Braeburn apples into 2cm dice.

  6. Put 30g unsalted butter and 30g demerara sugar into a medium saucepan and melt together over a medium heat. Cook for 3 minutes until the mixture turns to a light caramel.

  7. Stir in the apples and cook for 3 minutes. Add 115g blackberries and cook for 3 minutes more.

  8. Cover, remove from the heat, then leave for 2-3 minutes to continue cooking in the warmth of the pan.

  9. To serve, spoon the warm fruit into an ovenproof gratin dish, top with the crumble mix, then reheat in the oven for 5-10 mins. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Cooking Club

This week in cooking club the children made a pasta salad. The children bought in a variety of different fruits and vegetables to create some very colourful salads.

Next week, pupils will be making trick or treat cakes. Please can you ensure that your child brings the basic ingredients along with a container to bring their cake home in. Please also be reminded that next week will be a slightly longer session, finishing at 4.30pm. Thank you.

We made Gruffalo crumble! The children cut the fruit themselves, prepared the crumble mixture too. Once cooked, the children enjoyed trying out their tasty treat. Miss Lloyd taste- tested some and said it was delicious!
