As we wrap up another productive week at our school, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences our pupils have had and share some important reminders for the upcoming weeks.
This week has certainly been an exciting one for our younger children, particularly our Year 3 class, who had the delightful opportunity to visit Wingham Wildlife Park. We have heard nothing but glowing reports about their day. It was heartwarming to learn how their faces lit up as they encountered a variety of animals. From cheeky monkeys to majestic birds, the trip was filled with wonder and learning. Their impeccable behaviour during the visit was commendable and is a testament to the qualities they are developing as inquisitive learners. This excursion serves as a perfect way to kickstart their unit of inquiry for the term focused on animals and their habitats. I do hope they returned home buzzing with stories to share about their adventure!
Meanwhile, our Year 2 pupils have also started off on an exciting note, diving into their cricket sessions with Kent County Cricket. It's fantastic to see the enthusiasm with which they are embracing this new activity. This sports initiative not only helps develop their physical skills but also fosters teamwork and sportsmanship, valuable lessons that extend beyond the classroom. As they learn the fundamentals of the game, I look forward to seeing how these sessions enhance their confidence and ability to work collaboratively.
Looking ahead, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that next week is Careers Week! This event is a fantastic opportunity for our children to explore various professions and learn about the different paths they can take in the future. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up to share their careers with our pupils; we truly appreciate your involvement and commitment to enriching our children’s educational experience. I can’t wait to see how the week unfolds and to share the highlights with you all in next week’s newsletter!
Also, I'd like to remind everyone that World Book Day is next Thursday! On this special day, we invite all pupils to come dressed as their favourite book characters. It’s a wonderful chance to inspire a love of reading and spark conversations about the many stories that shape our lives. Please encourage your children to get creative with their costumes; whether it’s Harry Potter, Matilda, or any other character, I know they will have a fantastic time celebrating literature with their peers.
Wishing you all a restful weekend ahead!

Office staff spend a considerable amount of time sending out payment and consent reminders in relation to the vast array of trips, workshops and activities that take place across all year groups here at Leigh Academy Langley Park. On occasion, staff have needed to resort to chasing parents for consent and/or payment right up until the morning of an event their child is due to participate in, which was likely communicated several weeks and/or months in advance.
It is important to note that office staff are under no obligation to send out reminders about trips and activities that your child(ren) may be due to take part in. Staff currently carry out the above actions in order that no child misses out, however it is parents and carers that have a fundamental responsibility to stay informed about their child(ren)'s school activities, including making timely payments for trips, workshops and other events they may be involved in or have the opportunity to participate with, and providing the necessary consent. This requires the regular checking of relevant sections within the My Child at School app - Announcements, Important Documents and the weekly academy newsletter - ensuring that any required payments are made on time and consent requests are responded to promptly to subsequently foster their child(ren)'s participation in enriching experiences.
We are grateful to the many parents who observe the deadline for completing consent and payments and very much hope to reduce the number of reminders that currently need to be sent out moving forwards.

Many children and young people enjoy exploring new and exciting genres and themes in the films and TV they consume and, as they grow, the maturity of this content will likely increase with them. However, without proper supervision and safeguarding, youngsters looking for a new title to enjoy, especially in the horror genre, might get a little more that they are ready for.
The emotional and psychological impacts of viewing age-inappropriate content can be severe. It is vital for parents and carers to know how to keep children as safe as possible whilst they explore new, potentially grittier or darker, pieces of media. The below guide breaks down the risks of viewing age-inappropriate content, with a particular focus on horror, and offers expert advice on how to limit a young person's exposure to matieral that might upset or disturb them. There is also an accompanying podcast version of this guide in order that you can tap into valuable guidance whilst out and about on the go. We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to the Key Stage Lead and/or Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.
