We have had a huge amount of exciting things going on this week. Almost something every day!
On Monday, our football team attended the Maidstone United football tournament. They represented the school in a way that could only make us proud and demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship. On Tuesday, you may have seen our Year 1s going on a local walk to Costa. They took in all of the familiar landmarks on the way and some even spotted their houses! On Wednesday, we had an extra special visit by Peter Norton who was part of the panel who awarded us the Kent Wellbeing Award. He delivered workshops about emotional wellbeing and resilience to our Year 5 classes and one around transition for Year 6. We were pleased to be able to showcase the academy to him. We also had our annual Harvest Assembly with Rev. Mark in the afternoon. The children sang songs and learned about the origins of Harvest. Thank you to the families who made donations to this. The week ended with Year 5 welcoming a representative from a local homeless charity to find out more about the work they do. This will be the springboard for the children's inquiry learning. We have ended the day with a bake sale for the Macmillan's Coffee Mornng. Thank you to everyone who has supported either by donating cakes or buying them from the stall.
All of the above is just a small snippet of what we do as an academy to promote the children's wider personal development. We enrich the curriculum with these opportunities so that the children can contextualise and see relevance to their learning.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Miss S Brading
All children at Leigh Academy Langley Park should have a security password in place. This is part of our safeguarding procedures and is therefore in place to safeguard your child and ensure that only those who are authorised to collect them are able to do so.
Should any person that is collecting your child be asked for the security password, please reassure them as to the purpose of this and ask that they are not impatient or rude to staff members. It may be that there is a different member of staff in your child's class that day that, for whatever reason, does not recognise the adult collecting your child, even if this is actually a parent or carer.
As you can imagine, our staff are confronted with a huge number of faces each and every day and will always take steps to be completely sure they are releasing your child to a safe person. This process is not in place to cause annoyance but to protect and safeguard the children in our care. We therefore ask for your patience with this matter and would like to remind all parents/carers that we expect staff to be treated with respect at all times.
A reminder that our Year 5 pupils will be running a Treat Stall during the morning of next Wednesday, 2nd October 2024.
Please consider supporting the children's efforts by sending your child(ren) to school with a small amount of money so that they can purchase something from the stall should they wish to and support our pupils in raising funds for this worthwhile cause.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated support.

The internet has transformed the ability to access content. Many apps that children use are dependent on user-generated content which can encourage freedom of expression, imagination and creativity. However, due to the sheer volume of new content that is uploaded to the internet every day it can be difficult for platforms to regulate and moderate everything and this means that disturbing or distressing images, videos and/or audio clips can slip through the net.
The below guide provides parents and carers with some useful tips on keeping children safe online and includes a number of potential risks such as age-inappropriate content, privacy issues and mental health.
A reminder that all of our parent/carer community are invited to create an account with National Online Safety, which provides a wide range of resources such as the guides we include in our newsletters, courses and video resources. If you have not already done so, please create your account by visiting the link below.

We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to the Key Stage Lead and/or Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.
