This week, our Journalism Club researched when Father's Day was founded and why. Our journalist, Ellie, alongside Ms Da Silva, has interviewed teachers and children about their views regarding the topic.
Father's Day is a recognized national holiday which was founded in the United States in the early 20th century, with Sonora Smart Dodd credited as the driving force behind its creation. Inspired by a Mother's Day sermon, Sonora advocated for a similar day to honour fathers, particularly her own father who raised her and her siblings after her mother's death.

Ms Bick: "I make breakfast and give him a card that I made. We make sure that we spend time with dad. Father’s day means being grateful for your dad and all that they do."
Ms Mapley: "We always had a roast dinner during father’s day and my dad used to go on a dog walk with me. It means everything."
Diekolola: "I get my dad breakfast in bed. The best gift to him is making his favourite food."
Amelie: "I give my dad a massive hug. We want to celebrate differently so it can give us different opportunities to do things. Fathers day means that you can thank your dad. The best gift would be a sat nav for his truck."
Amelia: "I give my dad gifts. I get to spend quality time with him on Father’s day."
Myra: "I give my dad a card and a personalised hat that I decorated at school. Fathers day acknowledges how hard my dad works and shows that I appreciate him."
