“Night Sky” by Ben Schnabel

My painting is called, “Night Sky” because it shows how beautiful the night sky could be without light pollution. It was made with a mix of watercolor and tempera paint. The contrast of the bright night sky and the dark mountain range is a satisfying difference. It shows what the night sky used to look like. The color mix creates a nice balance in the artwork.

I created a red panda using oil pastels and paint. Some elements of art that my creation had were color, unity, and line. I created a picture of a red panda because they are my favorite animal. I tried to add the small details like the lighting in the picture. My goals are to try my best, and learn from my mistakes. Making this piece of art helped me reach my goals because when I messed up I learned not to do it again. The final piece isn’t quite what I expected or imagined it to be but I like it.

While making this piece of art I learned how to make good details when I’m drawing animals. I really liked how I combined two materials together which were oil pastels and paint. Habits of mind I used were when I added every detail. One thing I love about this artwork is that it’s my favorite animal. Another thing I love about this artwork is that it brings out lots of color. One thing I would do differently is that I would only use paint, not pastel and paint because I think it would look a lot nicer.

"Pastel Painting" by Lena Hess

My artwork is oil pastel mushroom with a watercolor background. I created my watercolor background first to create a blurred effect. Afterwards I drew the mushroom and used darker colors so that it looks more realistic and nature-like. My artwork was inspired by hiking in the woods. I am very happy with how it turned out and I will continue to paint more nature themed pieces in the future.
