“Untitled” Colored Pencil Drawing by Arlona Gashi

My artwork is about a bird in a peaceful setting. Some elements I worked with are color, shape, line and texture. However one principle I used is contrast, because the background was very blurry and the bird is clear and easy to see. The reason why I worked with those elements was because I had to blend and color in the bird and plants around it, so that's color. The way I used line is because I had to make clear and clean lines to make the image look better. Finally the way i used texture is the shading because the plants are sorta shaded a bit also i needed to make the bird look soft and fluffy like it did in the picture.

To create my artwork I first failed to get the shape because I was underestimating the size, so instead of the bird coming out chubby it came out skinny, so I tried again and got the chubby shape. Another thing that I also messed up on was the color. The oil pastels kept smudging in a way I didn't like. I also couldn't make clean lines with oil pastels so i felt like i was not under control with this artwork. Then I tried colored pencils which were much better because the lines were easier to make and they were cleaner also for the blurry background I crosshatched which was much easier.

So the reason I chose to draw a bird is because I really like nature and animals and this bird is in a peaceful setting which sorta I guess you can say it represents peace. I also tried to show that if we take care of the environment then things can be peaceful again. My goal as an artist is to practice realism and cartoon styles. And in this artwork I think I got there because I got the shapes right and the color and at the end my drawing looked like the image itself. I was also happy I got to learn through mistakes.

The Sail of the Unicorn” Pencil Drawing by Ryan Mast

This art piece I created is called “The Sail of the Unicorn”. It is a pencil drawing of a schooner sailing across a bay. I never used any color and focused mainly on the details of how it looked. The main reason I drew it was just to have fun and create something new. Since my goal was to have fun I felt more like drawing it and finished quickly. I learned that shape is important because it makes the drawing or painting more realistic.

"Green Contrast" Oil Pastel by Caleb Bowman

I call my drawing “The Green Contrast” because it is a drawing of a plant among a black background. I chose to draw this because it is nature, and I like drawing and taking photos of nature, and it looks nice.
