The TEACH program is a two-year program that prepares students to fill a vital role in education and care of children. This program teaches content knowledge in introduction to education, child and adolescent development, preschool through middle school curriculum and instruction, content standards and educational theory and principles. High school students receive the opportunity to teach and care for children in many different learning environments through internships. The students learn best practices from teachers in their own community and from all high quality schools.
The first year of the program stresses basic skills needed to work with children and the students are provided with the opportunity to actively be engaged with children. In the second year, the students expand their experiences with opportunities to intern with children preschool through 8th grade.
At the end of the two year program, the students must pass four required WebXams designed by the Ohio Department of Education, along with completing a Portfolio filled with examples and artifacts of their learning. Students will have an opportunity to take the Paraprofessional exam through the Educational Services Center, certified in CPR and First Aid, and complete a course on Communicable Diseases.
Prerequisites for the program include a physical exam and a background check.
Graduation Pathway: Possibility to earn 12 industry credential points and the Industry-Recognized Credential Seal
College Credit Possible - Student must fulfill requirements of the college
Industry Credentials: First Aid, CPR/AED, Communicable Disease, Paraprofessional Certificate, Lead4Change Student Leadership
Internship Opportunities (paid and unpaid) - Volunteering in the elementary or middle school classroom setting during junior and senior year. Work experience 2nd semester senior year, 15-20 hours per week in a related occupation.
