Meet Ms. Marten

Hello Flyer Families!

My name is Katie Marten and this will be my 11th year at Lake Elementary as the school counselor. I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with several of you over the years and look forward to continue making positive connections with Lake families between school and home. I was born and raised in Bowling Green where I still live.  I have a very energetic 9 year old son who is starting 4th grade this year!  We love to swim, explore nature, go to baseball games (Mudhens and Tigers!), golf and lounge around watching movies.

My education started at Owens Community College in 2004 where I received an associates degree in early childhood education. I transferred to BGSU to continue my education and earned a bachelor's degree in communications disorders. But I wasn't done yet! I attended graduate school at BGSU and received a masters degree of Education in school counseling.  After graduation I worked as a school counselor with the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West for 2 years before landing my position here at Lake.

I provide school counseling services for our little flyers on various levels. I meet with students as a whole group by coming into the classrooms to provide social/emotional lessons.  I also conduct small group counseling opportunities for students to focus on a particular skill. Small groups are generally provided on a monthly basis and students are referred by parents/guardians or teachers. A permission slip will always be sent home before a group starts.  Lastly, I work with students individually.
