LUHS LIBRARY GOAL - Adapting the LUHS library for current and future educational needs while promoting reading.
Create flexible space for learners.
BACKGROUND - The LUHS library has undergone a extensive reorganization in the last year. The goal has been to create more flexible and welcoming spaces.
ACTIONS
Organize the fiction section by genre adding identifying spine labels to each section: Classics, Dystopian, Fantasy, Graphic Novels, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Realistic Fiction, Romance, Science Fiction, and Sports. This will also require updates to the catalog record of each book. This will require relabeling of each fiction book according to the genre assigned.
Developing a fluid display of new materials and dynamic shelving.
Creating a buzz of books.
Weeding, purposeful removal of items, needs to take place to allow for both the addition of more relevant materials but also easier location of those materials. This will take place most heavily in the non-fiction section as databases and government websites provide more current and accessible information for many subjects.
Weeding around primary needs of students learning to support inquiring minds
Evaluated library collection by diversity to identify areas of diversification needs.
Integrate the reference section into the regular non-fiction collection. These books are often overlooked by students.
Implement a whole school reading challenge; with a primary goal of getting students talking about what they are reading and have read.
This includes offering 2 forms of summer reading experiences, both audio and digital with offline access that is device agnostic.
TIMELINE
Action 1 will be completed by the end of the 2019-20 school year.
Action 2 will be completed by the end of the 2020-21 school year and updated (further weeded) by the end of the 2022-23 school year.
Action 3 will be completed by the end of the 21-22 school year and updated annually thereafter.
Action 4 will be completed over the course of the plan with completion at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
Action 5 will be completed over the course of the 22-23 school year; expanding and growing annually thereafter.

BACKGROUND - Funding for school libraries is provided primarily through Wisconsin Common School Funds. This comes with stipulations on how the money can be spend. It does allow for subscriptions to databases that provide students with digital content. These digital resources allow more students access to specific and more varied materials. They also require an annual renewal to continue access and may be costly if the the usage by students is not monitored for effectiveness of the investment.
ACTIONS
Provide access information and instructions for students and staff by utilizing Google Single Sign On (SSO) allowing for ease of access from both school and home.
Map digital resources and tools to district curriculum.
Use map and usage statistics to make budget decisions for subscriptions.
Gain proficiency with Noodletools to expand staff knowledge through training, followed by adaptation and usage by various departments as consistent tool to record sources and proper citations while utilizing research in the learning process.
TIMELINE
Action 1 will be completed by the end of the 2019-20 school year.
Action 2 will be started during of the 2021-22 school year and evaluated every year thereafter.
Action 3 will be ongoing, starting in the 2019-20 school year and data updated every year thereafter to ensure digital resources are both meeting instructional needs and being utilized.
Action 4 will be ongoing, starting in the 2022-23 school year and reviewed every year thereafter.

2022-23 REFLECTION OF GOALS
GOAL - Evaluated library collection by diversity to identify areas of diversification needs: A diversity analysis is used as a temperature gage to identify diversity and maintain a balanced collection. As the initial process was set up last year, this year and all years going forward the tool is used to maintain this balance and diversity to gain the collection that representants a holistic society as identified by state Statue as the collection of materials in a school library. This includes the library as a classroom for learning library skills and developing inquisitive learners whom seek information for their own personal consumption, application, and enjoyment.
GOAL - Gain proficiency with Noodletools to expand staff knowledge through training, followed by adaptation and usage by various departments as a consistent tool to record sources and proper citations while utilizing research in the learning process: the gaining of proficiency with Noodletools will be ongoing. The use and integration into various classroom work was expanded, yet more work continues. This goal is ongoing.
GOAL - Report Annual Library Report to the school board on goal progress and overall state of the library. Library report provided at the June 2023 school board meeting. Library plan is curranty being prepared for a Fall 2023 renewal by the school board.
2021-22 REFLECTION OF GOALS
GOAL - Evaluated library collection by diversity to identify areas of diversification needs: A diversity analysis was set up and run. The analysis will now be a continual part of the Collection Analysis and utilized for informed purchasing decisions to meet the needs of all learners.
GOAL - Map digital resources and tools to district curriculum: this was started in a very preliminary sense through the PDT (Professional Development Thursday) work. This work will be ongoing.
GOAL - Gain proficiency with Noodletools to expand staff knowledge through training, followed by adaptation and usage by various departments as a consistent tool to record sources and proper citations while utilizing research in the learning process: the gaining of proficiency with Noodletools will be ongoing. The use and integration into various classroom work was expanded, yet more work continues. This goal is ongoing.

2020-21 REFLECTION OF GOALS
GOAL - Use of Space and Time: Weeding was completed selectively on the collection for the purposeful removal of items to allow for both the addition of more relevant materials but also easier location of those materials. The reference section of the library was weeded and then integrated into the regular non-fiction collection.
GOAL - Budget and Resources: The databases were heavily scrutinized to ensure the usage and value of the resource is fully utilized. This resulted in two digital resources selected, due to lack of usage for non-renewal of the contact for next year as the usage statistics do not justify the expense.
2019-20 REFLECTION OF GOALS
GOAL - Use of Space and Time: By the end of June 2020 the fiction collection of the library was reorganized and relabeled on each book's call number in the library by genre. Additionally, all fiction books were cataloged in Destiny library by genre.
GOAL - Budget and Resources: Usage report history on all digital resources was researched and recorded for the past three years to establish a background on usage. No changes to the digital database subscription was made due to COVID school shut down and the disruption of the school year that resulted.
