"If what you are doing interferes with learning,
hurts someone (physically or emotionally) ,
or prevents you from being your best self,
then you will be asked to stop doing it."
Please refer to pages 6 through 12 of our student handbook for a full explanation of expected school conduct.
The Seven Beliefs of Responsive Classroom:
1. The social curriculum is as important as an academic curriculum.
2. How children learn is as important as what they learn.
3. The greatest cognitive growth occurs through social interaction.
4. There are a set of social skills that children need in order to be successful academically and socially.
5. Knowing the children that we teach is as important as knowing the content that we teach.
6. Knowing the parents of the children we teach is as important as knowing the children.
7. Teachers and administrators must model the social and academic skills which they wish to teach their students.
Classroom Meeting Structure:
Welcome - Students will be greeted at the door each morning, and some sort of greeting will be expected back. (Handshake, Wave, High Five, etc.)
Announcements - students will be given a list of calendar events for the school, classroom announcements, and students have the chance to announce anything going on in their lives
Partner/Group Discussion - Students will discuss a question of the day.
Activity - The class will do an activity meant to be fun and energetic.
Lakehurst Lions will focus on learning the key character traits of:
Respect
Optimism
Achievement
Responsibility
Our Student of the Month is a student who is recognized and celebrated for exhibiting these traits!
We hand out ROAR tickets for students who are consistently showing the ROAR traits above! Also, once a week there will be a 6th grade winner of the Golden Paw - a special motivator only for students in my class! And of course there will be a student of the month announced at the ROAR assemblies on the last Thursday/Friday of each month!
When school rules are broken the first time, students will be given a Reflection Sheet to be filled out in a quiet space in the classroom, or a neighboring room. The Fix It ticket will be discussed by the student and Miss McNair and then sent home to be signed and returned.
If a student brakes the same/similar school rules the second offense will be handled with a Reflection Sheet and a lunch detention.
If a student brakes the same/similar school rules for a third offense they will be sent to the office with a Reflection Sheet and have an administrative meeting. This meeting may result in a lunch detention or an after school detention, or whatever consequences administrations sees fit.
This three strike system will reset each week.
