Welcome to the library. I am Mrs. Ritter, your librarian. I am from a little town in Colorado that some of you may have heard about on the 1995 movie "The Net" - although Sandra Bullock claims to be from La Junta in the movie, I actually am! Despite being (only slightly) younger than Ms. Sandra, I have lived here for many decades, long enough to remember a time when we only received 4 channels on TV (on a clear day) and had a call in request line at the local radio station to hear your favorite songs. Before the world-wide web, before downloadable music and movies at your fingertips, before video clips and cell phones, I read.
I read everything that came into my vicinity. I have explored outside our galaxy, underneath the oceans, ridden dragons, fallen in love again and again, and solved so many mysteries I cannot count them all. During these adventures, I have raised my family of four children and been married to the same man I dated as a boy attending La Junta High School so long ago. Currently I am enjoying my position as librarian at that same La Junta High School.
Though I have traveled throughout the U.S., I look forward to each new book like a new vacation - a chance to experience new adventures and perspectives. Most of the time I love each new story, though sometimes I have been disappointed, but I am always ready to take on the next, great read. I hope my students and friends can all find similar joy and satisfaction in literary travels. Come, explore with me!
