Please upload to your submission pages required evidence of all of the following assignments by 9/20/23 and keep track of the amount of time spent on each to be entered on your time trackers (to be provided.)

Assignment: Read literature about the Yale Swallow Protocol. Complete Yale Swallow Protocol and the EAT 10. Using a volunteer, make video administering the EAT 10 questionnaire and the Yale Protocol swallow test including audio providing appropriate directions, clearly showing appropriate amount of water, etc. Submit narrative summary of the tool and appropriate use (include references), completed form and results, and next steps based on findings. Assignment: On your RD Boot Camp subscription, go to our personalized course and complete modules 4-6 regarding diabetes, renal and nutrition support. The quizzes need a 75% minimum score. Any associated work sheets with these modules should be downloaded, completed and uploaded to your google site submission page.

In preparation for completing your own future portfolio, create a draft competency plan that describes the spheres and competencies you would choose for your future plan and upload it to your submission page.

Choose one that you have self identified with after watching the video and describe ways and give specific actions with which you can debias through cultivating and practicing cultural humility. As a follow up to the Weight Bias training materials presented in Pre-Orientation, we will meet as a class over zoom on Sept 11 at 6 pm central for a live discussion board. This will last roughly one hour. Please let Mindy and Robin know if you are unable to attend and why.

Each intern should speak at least once throughout the live discussion. Questions to prepare to discuss based on the above Weight Bias Modules and Training completed during pre-orientation, your own research, and experiences:
Define weight bias
What are the implications of weight bias in health care?
How does weight stigma trigger increased weight gain?
What are some possible solutions to address weight bias?
Discuss your thoughts on your own personal biases toward weight , especially as it relates to your role as a future health care provider for people with Diabetes and/or Obesity.
After the discussion, please respond to this poll to determine if we will continue future discussion boards in a live or written format.

Dr. Barbara O’Connor Wells, Ph.D., CCC-SLP from Nova Southeastern University and Dr. Marissa A. Barrera, PhD, MSCS, CCC-SLP from Yeshiva University will be presenting Swallow screen for dysphagia: what RDs need to know. This webinar aims to meet ACEND’s CRDN 3.6 (Conduct a swallow screen and refer to the appropriate health care professional for a full swallowing evaluation when needed) and FEM 3.2.e clinical skills competencies. Attendees will be provided with a “clinical toolbox” containing commonly utilized and validated screening tools for dysphagia that can be implemented in a wide array of clinical settings, while promoting interprofessional practice.
