Circulation
STUDENTS
Early Intervention students will check out books to classroom.
TK/K and 1st graders are allowed to check out 1 book at a time.
2nd-3rd grade students may check out 2 items at a time.
4th-5th grade students may check out 3 items at a time.
Students may check out only 1 Bobcat Favorite at a time, as these are the books that are the most requested.
Reference books may not be checked out.
Lower grades return books weekly on scheduled library days. Upper grades return books biweekly on scheduled library days.
Books may also be returned during the week even on not scheduled library days.
Books may be renewed up to two times unless another student has placed a hold on the book. The book must be brought back to the library to renew it.
SELECTING BOOKS FROM SHELVES
A shelf marker should be used when browsing through the bookshelves to ensure that all items are returned to their proper places. If a student decides that he does not want a book after removing the shelf marker from the shelf, the book should be placed in the returns area, orange cart or given to the library staff. Students should not attempt to reshelf a book on their own.
After selecting their book(s), students get in line at the circulation desk to check out.
OVERDUE BOOKS
If a student has an overdue book, they may not check out any item until the overdue book is returned or renewed.
LOST AND DAMAGED BOOKS
All library patrons, INCLUDING FACULTY, are responsible for the materials checked out under their Destiny account. Patrons should examine their materials as soon as they are checked out, and report any issues to the media specialist as soon as possible.
Damaged books should be returned to the library for repairs. Patrons should not attempt to repair materials themselves. Special book tapes and glues are used by the library staff to repair our materials.
If an item is lost or damaged beyond repair (as determined by the Library Specialists), the patron must pay the total replacement cost of $25. Patrons will not be allowed to check out additional materials if they have outstanding fines.
If a student loses a book, the book must be paid for so that a replacement can be bought.
If a book is damaged, the student must inform the Library Specialists immediately so that repairs can be made. If a book needs extensive repairs, a fine may be issued.
Students may choose to work off their fines before or after school or during their recess on Fridays in place of payment.
Students may not check out any books until their fine has been cleared.
The last person who checked out an item is responsible for that item. In other words, if you let a friend borrow a book and the friend loses it, you are still responsible for the book.
NOTICES
Reports will be printed and distributed on a regular basis to notify patrons of their current checkouts, overdue items, or lost/damaged materials. Notices will include the item description, due date, and replacement price.
Students withdrawing from Burton Valley Elementary must return all library materials, and be sure all fines are paid by their final day of attendance.
Students are not charged a fine for overdue materials. However, to help students learn to be responsible, they may not check out a new book until the overdue book is returned.
Money that is sent to school should be placed in an envelope that is clearly labeled with the student’s name, homeroom, and purpose. Make checks payable to BVE, and include a phone number.
