The Toolkit lays a foundation for school districts by providing comprehensive information on the education rights of foster youth along with step-by-step procedures to ensure foster youth receive the full benefit of laws designed to protect them. Second, the Toolkit provides easy-to-use implementation tools to help school districts move beyond this foundation of legal compliance to engagement in transformative best practices that will enable foster youth to achieve their college and career dreams.

United Friends of the Children’s Scholars Program

The Scholars Program is our education program that provides support for LA County foster youth throughout their educational journey. Activities include college counseling, workshops, college tours, social activities, tutoring, as well as emergency and enrichment grants. Students can enroll in the Scholars Program at any point along their educational journey from sixth grade through the completion of their bachelor’s degree. If a grade level is at capacity at the time of referral/application, students may be placed on a waitlist.
