The POST Method – people, objectives, strategy, and technology – introduced by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff in the book Groundswell , was developed as a social media strategy for marketing purposes, but it translates well to a strategy for integrating digital tools into our teaching.
Notice where technology comes in this method. It comes AFTER you think about the people, objectives, and strategy. The process can be iterative, after going through it once and identifying a technology tool, you may want to test your choice by applying it to your people, objectives and strategy. It's okay of your objectives increase a bit with the inclusion of the technology, but you don't want to lose sight of your original objectives. The main test is does the technology really help you towards your objectives and does it fit your people and strategy?
The people are you and your students. What is your comfort level with digital tools? What is your students' level? How do your students access digital content and tools?
Objective are your instructional objectives and goals. What should students be able to do after the lesson?
What has been your strategy to reach the objectives? Are there any gaps or places in your strategy that you feel could be improved? Any new challenges? Could digital tools help?
What digital tools do you want to use? How do they support your people, objectives, and strategy? What do you want the digital tool(s) to enhance/transform?
