This resource is the fourth and final in the series that addresses the question of “How will any unfinished learning inform scope, sequence and planning for next year?” The first three resources allowed time for reflecting on data gathered by teachers based on classroom knowledge and Star testing. This final resource is designed to assist teachers in identifying how any unfinished learning from this year can be connected to instruction for their incoming students during the 2021-2022 school year.

This resource is the third in a series designed to support planning for the 2021-2022 school year by addressing the guiding question of “How will any unfinished learning inform scope, sequence and planning for next year?” Part I and Part II addressed this question from the teacher’s perspective of what was taught and learned. The purpose of Part III is to leverage an analysis of Star data in order to gain additional insight about student learning. This will include looking at the whole class as well as identifying specific students who will need additional support in the fall in the form of accelerated learning.

The purpose of this week’s resource is to continue to explore the guiding question of “How will any unfinished learning inform scope, sequence and planning for next year?” and provide guidance for discussions between successive teachers about how the needs of the students can best be supported during the 2021-2022 school year. Note: This is a follow-up activity to last week’s resource.

Beginning today, we are providing a series of faculty agendas that can be used to plan for the 2021-2022 school year. We designed them in smaller chunks that can be incorporated into your weekly faculty meetings. However, we know that everyone’s schedules are different. We highly encourage you to review the series as it is shared and complete each component with your faculty before the end of the school year. While it is possible to wait until August to utilize them, the first few include conversations between teachers that would be helpful to have while this year's learning is fresh in their minds. The purpose of this week’s resource is to guide a reflection on which essential skills were left unfinished during this challenging year and how that will inform teacher planning and student learning in the upcoming year.

As we approach the one-year mark in the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that this resource allows your students the opportunity to reflect on what it has meant in their young lives, as well as what they have learned that they may possibly carry into the “new normal” that awaits.

Transforming Black History Month Into Yearlong Inclusive Curriculum
As Catholics, we are called to recognize the humanity in all people and to have the grace to look at the world with open minds and hearts. The events of the last year have thrown our complex American history into the limelight. As educators, we are reminded that we must embrace the ways that curriculum can be transformed into one that is more socially-just, culturally-responsive and inclusive of many perspectives.

As public health conditions continue to evolve, many school staff are being impacted. Given the continuing toll of the pandemic on schools’ limited human and financial resources, there may be a time when a school is unable to provide instruction as planned to particular classes, whether in distance or in-person learning. To prepare for these situations, it is helpful to have available a pre-planned, free-standing asynchronous playlist that can be assigned to students as part of an independent learning day. While this asynchronous playlist is not intended to replace a full day of instruction, it is important to continue providing learning opportunities for students in the event that a teacher is not available for a limited period of time. The purpose of this resource is to facilitate the creation of an asynchronous list of activities that your students can accomplish independently in approximately two hours.
