Reflecting

Reflecting is a closing activity for the in-person residency.

"A final morning plenary involves sharing insights gained by each team, and a reminder of expectations for follow-up."  [Dyer, Jones et al. (2015), p. 44]

Dialogue teams review the learning journey experienced together, and plans for forthcoming outputs (e.g. proceedings, applications in their own work, publications, and/or questions for a subsequent Conversation).

"[Participants] construct knowledge through their individual interpretations of experience and through social interaction. Each participant is assumed to be unique and complex, and to make personal meaning through an active sensemaking process (e.g., Vygotsky 1980). The particular form of social interaction that is sought within the BCM is David Bohm’s conception of dialogue (Nichol 1996), while the term “conversation” is used to connote the art of “turning to one another,” for example, in the tradition of telling stories around a campfire (Banathy 1996)."  [Dyer, Jones et al. (2015), p. 43]

The Conversation involves all in-person attendees for the residential period, that is beyond the separated dialogue teams.

" Our experience is that being a member of a conversation team over a four-to-five-day period will usually lead to intense bonding and thus, possibly over-separation from the whole group. Plenary sessions, and where desired and not disruptive, observation of other teams, help to maintain a larger community and to foster cross-fertilization of ideas among the teams."  [Dyer, Jones et al. (2015), p. 46]

The afternoon of Day 4 Thursday usually is spent reducing the accumulated flipcharts into a linear story that can be recounted to those outside of the dialogue team.

The morning of Day 5 Friday is the natural time for milestone presentations.
