Trout Life- Cycle
Hey there! Today I'm going to tell you about Brook Trout's life cycle. The four stages. Eyed Egg, Alevin/ SacFry, Fingerling, and Adult. Let's begin!
Eyed Egg Stage
The Eyed Egg Stage is the first stage in a Brook Trout's life. This is the stage where it all first starts. When you see eyes, they mean the eggs are more hearty and better able to transport better in their from the beginning. If you really pay attention, you would see how there are eyes, yes the actual eyes of the brook trout! In order to keep the eggs safe, the eggs you need to check on the trout at least 2 times per day. So now you know a few things about the Eyed Egg Sage.
Alevin/Sac Fry Stage
Sac Fry is the stage of development that the brook trout has emerged from the egg. Believe it or not has an egg sac still attached form the previous stage. The trout start taking the form and characteristics of what we think of as brook trout.
Fingerling Stage
This stage where the trout start increasing in size, It's also kind of the "teenager" stage. This is also the stage where the trout start growing. They typically grow in the 1-3 inch range.
Adult Sage
This is the stage beyond the fingerling stage that make the trout considered adult trout. Unfortunately, the trout typically does not have a life expectancy beyond 3 years of adult hood for trout. Rarely but sometimes the adult stage, grow to be larger 12" but, most are considerably smaller than that. This is a part of the adult stage where adult trout get their iconic distinctive square tail.
