Kawartha World Issues Centre or KWIC connects global issues to local initiatives. We create opportunities that can change how people understand the world and foster equitable and sustainable communities. We make change happen through three key program areas: Community Education, Youth and School Programs and Umbrella Support for Small and Emerging Initiatives.
Find out more about KWIC here or by visiting us at the KWIC EYE: Centre for Education | Youth | Environment (TrentU ESC B101).
For this project, we defined youth as anyone under the age of 30.
During the project, we had many conversations on how to use this definition of youth for deciding what to include or exclude from the directory or archive. As a group, we decided to use the terms "youth lead" or "for youth" to guide our process, as we recognize the value of youth-adult collaborations in the fight for climate justice.
The Youth Climate Action Directory is a list of current, active groups doing work on Climate Action or Climate Justice work in Nogojiwanong | Peterborough, who have opportunities for youth to get involved. This directory includes how youth can become engaged with organizations or what resources they offer specifically for youth.
The Youth Climate Action digital archive is a list of past organizations, initiatives, events and resources on Climate Action or Climate Justice in the Nogojiwanong/Peterborough area from 2018-2023 that are either youth-led or for youth.
While we worked hard to ensure that we included all organizations, projects, events and initiatives, we are sure there are some that may be missing. If you have an entry for the directory or archive, please reach out to us at info@kwic.info.
We see this as a living project and welcome new entries as they emerge.
