My feelings and thoughts during the class
I began my training and development class with excitement as I always wished to study with the instructor of our training and development course. But I didn't have so much expectation with the course content. I had read about the training and development in foundation course of Human resource. So, I thought the course will not have so much of content. It will be similar to what I had studied previously. That's what I had in my mind initially. But as we moved ahead with the class, I was surprised to know that the course has so much of knowledge and skills to offer for us. I realized that I need to work hard for the excel. And then, I started reading the Blanchard's course book. And that's how I developed my interest for reading the course book. I have always been a voracious reader. So, once I found the course interesting, I happened to read the book more and more.
I always have been a curious student and that may be the reason I keep asking questions with the teacher in any class. But so many times, I have found teachers who don't welcome the question from the students. So, I was extremely glad when our course instructor for training and developed welcomed questions. The class wasn't limited to lectures, but because we did several activities such as role paly, seminar, discussion, case studies, presentation and quiz, I found the class extremely fruitful. I have always felt that the best teacher makes his/her students fall in love with what he/she teaches. Because the facilitator for this course was friendly and empathetic, she was able to build a rapport with us due to which I loved listening to her and taking notes of the class. In short, such behaviour of the faculty made me fall in love with the course of training and development which made me a good student who loved learning and evolving and making the class fruitful.
My Learning experience
As mentioned earlier, I had no expectation that I would learn anything from the course. For example, earlier I would think training is provided for the career development of employees only or for fun. But now I know that the main purpose of training is to provide the employees with the required KSAs so that they can meet the expected performance. Now, I know why motivation of trainees is important for a successful training. In fact, now I know how to motivate myself and others or say why the motivational videos don't work to stay motivated for longer period of time.
The essence of alignment of strategies to whole HRD, not just Training department was explored in depth. The course taught me how to do A TNA, the essence of TNA and when to do TNA. The class provided me with the skills to design, develop and implement the training in an effective way. Last, but not the least, I also got to learn the essence of training evaluation and how to do it successfully. So, these were my learning experience in the class of training and development.
