Why evaluate the training?
Most organizations don't evaluate once the training is done. They think evaluation is not necessary. But imagine a business that decided it would not look at its profitability, ROI, or productivity. You are a supervisor with this company, but you never look at how well or poorly your subordinates are performing their jobs. This is what training is like when no evaluation is conducted.Â
Evaluation is important not just for cost-benefit thing, but also for the accountability. Once people responsible for training are accountable, they are responsible to show the positive outcome of training to the top management. And that's one way to make sure the training takes place in an effective way.
There are mainly three types of training evaluation. They are: process evaluation, outcome evaluation and cost evaluation.
Under this method of evaluation, the achievement of training objectives are measured. If the training has met its objectives, it is considered successful, and unsuccessful if it didn't meet its objectives.
Under this evaluation, the cost-benefit of the training is evaluated. If the benefit of training exceeds its cost, the training is considered successful, and unsuccessful if it the cost exceeds the benefit.
Under this method of training evaluation, the whole process of training from needs analysis to design to develop and implement is analyzed carefully to find out if there has been any mistakes or anything missed during the whole of process of training development. If any error or mistake is found, it is corrected.
