Kindergarten through Fifth Grade
Elementary students K-5 explore the basics of music theory, learning to read & write music, and perform at school concerts
The general music classroom offers Kingman Unified School District students Kindergarten through fifth grades the ability to perform, create, respond and connect with music on a weekly basis during the school day. Students learn to read musical notation through singing and playing various musical instruments as well as compose short musical excerpts. Certified music teachers explore the context of the musical language and help students connect music to our world & other disciplines. The general music curriculum ties directly to the Arizona Academic Standards in Music and is the foundation of KUSD's comprehensive music program building bridges to participation in school band and choir programs.
Elementary students periodically perform at school concerts and events. Visit the KUSD Performing Arts Calendar for more details!
Music has positive effects on academic achievement. "The Arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic . . . music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment." - William Bennett, Former United States Secretary of Education, 1986
