Aspiring vocalists from Grades 3 through 12 have the opportunity to come together in song to share their musical talents. Using their voice as an instrument, students develop vocal technique and aural skills required for singing accurately and expressively within an ensemble or as a soloist. Choir students incorporate a myriad of musical styles and such methods as Kodaly and Solfège as encountered in the Arizona Academic Standards in Music.
All choir students will perform in school concerts & the KUSD Choral Festival. Middle & high school vocalists travel to compete in individual & large group state competitions. Check the KUSD Performing Arts Calendar for upcoming concerts!
Music helps children develop better human connections and social skills. "The musician is constantly adjusting decisions on tempo, tone, style, rhythm, phrasing and feeling - training the brain to become incredibly good at organizing and conducting numerous activities at once. Dedicated practice of these activities can have a great payoff for lifelong attentional skills, intelligence, and an ability for self-knowledge and expression." - John Ratey, MD, A User's Guide to the Brain, 2001
