Thanks for visiting! The site is still being updated, but hopefully you find what is here to be informative.
This video explains a few important differences between AP and IB, discusses IB assessment, and shows how IB schedules work at Kenmore East.
An 8th or 9th grader who is interested in pursuing the IB Diploma as a junior should take the most challenging classes available to him/her. Being in all honors classes in not a requirement for IB -- we want a variety of talents and backgrounds in the program, but at the same time, students do need to prepare for the challenge.
A few special requirements -- if you are interested in IB Visual Art, you need to take Studio Art in 9th or 10th grade; If you are interested in IB Music, you need to take Music Theory and you must be in a music ensemble here at school.
For math, please see the What Math Class Should I Take? link below.
Freshmen planning on joining IB in their junior year need to take English 10 Honors in their sophomore year -- this is a writing intensive course to prepare students for the writing they will be required to do in IB. English 10 Honors is open to all students: students coming from an non-honors level course will need a recommendation from their English 9 teacher.
Diploma candidates take 3 courses at a Higher Level and 3 at a Standard Level
Higher Level classes meet for 2 double periods in a 4 day schedule -- a total of 4 periods every 4 days.
Standard Level classes meet for 1 double period and 1 single period in 4 day schedule -- a total of 3 class periods every 4 days.
With the double periods and an every other day schedule students will only have to prepare for 3 IB classes every day.
Perhaps the entire IB Diploma is not for you. There is another option, you can be a 'course candidate.' Course candidates can choose to take a number of IB classes and are not responsible for the IB Core. However, if they want to take TOK, they must take at least two IB classes.
All Diploma Candidates will take the same 3 Higher Level Classes: English, History and Biology.
Diploma Candidates have to choose one Language B (whichever one they have been studying), one Math (descriptions below) and one elective
