Nearly all countries conduct a census every ten years (some like Australia more frequently). Information from a census is used to count the populace and make plans and decisions regarding the public services required to support people within a region. These services could include hospitals, schools, roads, and public transport. Local authorities often also use this information to help meet the core needs of their area.
