Observing the class 1
When we observe for the class 1 on the 3rd March 2021 in the first term, we arrived on the school campus at 8:00 am. There were so many of us so we pair up into 4 groups; 2 groups do an observation in class 2 and the other 2 groups in class 1. We came on the school compound at 7:45am and some groups didn’t turn up that morning but they came at lunch hour. At 8:30 the class started the class 1 have only two streams, and their first lesson that the teacher started with is literacy and numeracy. The teacher opens her lesson with a short of prayer, then recapping on how to count numbers from 1 to 5 on an object like tebanna temanna etc. And lastly reading from the poster on weather. After the reading from the poster the teacher observes each on their understanding on weather. What is weather, and what kind of season is windy, sunny, cloudy and rainy looks like.
During the observation we know that the teacher was on time. Her teaching is amazing that she teaches all the subject. At 10:00 am the lesson started on literacy and numeracy. This time the children have to go outside to see different kind of building to observe on the different sizes on big and small. And when they returned, they have to write their picture on different sizes of building on which is the smallest and which is the biggest. I feel happy that after returning the children have so much fun and it the first time for me to observe that you also can let the children’s out in your learning outcome.
At 12:00 pm we switched with the other group, now we are in class 1A. In this class we came across with naughty kid. As we compare the two classes, we found out that in this class there were lots of naughty kid. I saw that there were also slow learners among them. Their classroom management were well organized and they have different kind of corners. The teacher even has her timetable, calendar, performance on their registered. I felt sad for the teacher in class 1a because she’s limited on the teaching strategies.
When the school was over at 1:00 pm we found out that the children complete all their activities. The teacher also grouping them to do their activities and mixed the slow learners among the smart ones. She even let the naughty ones to sit in front so that she can always keep an eye on them so that they may not disturbed the others. At the end we know that these teachers know how’s to deal with them even she’s limited on the teaching strategy.
This is our first time in doing the observation, and our first time seeing some issues during the teaching and learning. So, what I want here is to encourage teachers to seek more teaching strategies and skills to arouse the curiosity of children or students to love learning in the life-long learning.
