To support districts engaging in the selection process, KSDE will host a professional learning network focused on materials selection and change management for districts selecting instructional materials for English Language Arts, Grades 9-12 (or high school). This professional learning network is designed to help leaders anchor their materials selection process in a shared vision of quality instruction and narrow materials options using third-party information, educator-centered selection committees, and district-specific perspectives. Throughout the series, participants will also explore key considerations for communication and change management in each phase of the selection process.
Session 1, Developing a Lens for HS ELA Materials Selection, will launch the learning series and introduce participants to KSDE’s Instructional Materials Selection Guidance for ELA. All sessions are 90 minutes and will be held virtually. Sessions will not be recorded.

Instructional materials will only have the desired impact on students’ experiences and outcomes when paired with ongoing support for thoughtful implementation. With that in mind, KSDE is hosting a professional learning network to support the implementation of Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) in Grades K-5. This network will equip leaders with the tools, knowledge, and strategies to effectively support CKLA implementation in service of quality instruction.
