Ano ʻai kākou. ʻO Tiana Miguel koʻu inoa. Distance Learning is new for all of us, but I am excited to begin this journey with you. Let me share a little about myself.
He kama a Hina wau, Molokai Nui a Hina: I was born, raised, and continue to live on Molokai. The outdoors are a big part of my lifestyle. I come from an ʻohana of hunters and fishermen. My ʻohana and I continue to hunt and gather our food. I am a lifelong paddler and have crossed a total of 15 channels.
He pua a Pauahi wau: I am a KS Kapālama graduate. In 2009 I returned to Kamehameha to work in community education and have been serving Pauahi’s mission in my Molokai community since. I have taught grades K-12 in multiple contents including science, social studies, writing, and Hawaiian Culture. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher in early/middle literacy.
Kuʻu ʻohana: My husband Charles is also a Molokai boy. Together we have 3 keiki, 2 girls and 1 boy. My oldest, Kilinoe-Leiliʻa, is 12 and ready to begin her first year of middle school. My middle daughter, ʻĀla’i, is 9 and will be a 4th grader. My son Charles Boy is 4, and is eager to go back to Preschool.
This upcoming school year contains many unknowns, but we will holomua and figure it out together. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for anything!
Aloha e na hoa aloha ‘aina! ‘O Ka’apuni Aiwohi ko’u inoa, no Waiehu, Maui mai au. Noho au ma Waiehu, Maui. I enjoy taking my ‘ohana to jump in rivers, go diving for fish, and working in our kupuna lo’i.I have taught 7th Grade Social Studies, 7th Grade Life Science, planned ho’omaka’ika’i, and worked with principals and complex area superintendents to make sure our haumana get the best Hawaiian-culture based education. I want you to know that I am here to support you and your ‘ohana in building our haumana to be the best that they can be.
ʻAno ʻai ke welina...ʻO Jacqueline Van Blarcom koʻu inoa. Kapa ʻia wau ʻo Kumu Uluwehi. No ʻAiea mai au, noho wau ma ka moku o Keawe ma Papaʻikou.
I am a mother of three- two boys and a girl ranging from a Sophomore in High School to Papa 4 and Papa 3 all attending a local Hawaiian immersion charter school. We have just as many dogs! As a family we enjoy being outdoors, the sport of soccer, and spending time traveling.
I enjoy teaching & creating culture based experiences for communities, adults, & children alike. My experience includes nearly a decade at Hawaiʻi Community College wherein I helped plan and carry out trainings, events, and travel that worked to bring exposure for staff and students to a worldview full of purpose & passion. I recently taught Science for grades 7-12 at a local charter school based in Keaukaha utilizing wahi pana, community organizations, and ʻohana to develop an inclusive, ʻāina based curriculum.
This will be an exciting semester of learning many new things together. I look forward to getting to know you and your ʻohana better as we support each other in this new adventure of learning!
