Freshman and Sophomore Year:
- Be sure to register for high school courses that align up to eligibility. See links below.
- Stay focused and do well in school
- Be the best you can be on and off the field
- During the season and games, have a family member or friend take video footage. If you don't have the right equipment, inquire at the school if you are able to borrow.
- Be sure to also get statistics each year and start to create an Athletic Resume. An Athletic Resume should have one action shot photo and read information about you, name, address, contact, school, GPA standing, height, weight, position, statistics, athletic awards.. Go to Pinterest to find some examples.
- If you are a part of an outside league and you travel be sure to take your unofficial transcript and resume to be prepared.
- If you are truly serious about playing at the college level you will need to show motivation towards your goals. College coaches and AD's do not want to speak to me or your parents. They will in most part be in communication with you or your coach.
- If you are interested in some schools you can start early to go to the college's athletic page and find the athletic inquiry tab. There they will ask your demographic information, sport, position(s) played, height, weight, coaches information, etc. You could also get the college coaches' contact from the site and email them directly with our inquiry and send them highlights or a video.
- If you wish there are online athletic platforms that come with a cost. High school students can display their athletic accomplishments, videos and more. Colleges and Universities in turn utilize this platform to recruit potential players.
- A suggestion would be to create a spreadsheet of all the athletic contacts (name, number, email) and list down conversations with date and time. Be in a "pain" when it comes to this process. Keep on contacting until you get to communicate with someone. Your consistency shows determination and drive.
Junior to Senior Year:
- Continue with all of the above bulletins from your underclassman years.
- During the spring of the junior year students should consider taking an ACT and/or SAT exam. Some schools still require the testing for admissions as others do not. When registering for either the ACT (actstudent.org) or SAT (collegeboard.org) place in code 9999 to send scores to NCAA.
- During the same time again if students are serious and by this time have made some connections with colleges to play he/she should register with the respectful association (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA). Fees do apply. Official transcripts and test scores need to be requested and sent in.
- If a college gives you a verbal commitment it is not a commitment yet until it is in writing and it is signed for. Please inform your college counselor of any athletic commitments as we usually hold a "Signing Day" for athletes who are going to play in college.
NCAA Eligibility Center:
In order to be eligible to play sports at the NCAA level all students must be cleared and declared eligible by the NCAA.
