IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: REPORT CARDS AND RE-ENROLLMENT
Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Kula Kiʻekiʻe ʻOhana Presence
Aloha e nā ʻohana o ke kula kiʻekiʻe o Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi,
It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of our beloved kumu, Dr. Kāwika Rose, who left us on March 21, in the late afternoon.
Dr. Rose was a dedicated and committed educator whose love for teaching was evident in every lesson he created and every student he supported. He had a special gift for making mathematics meaningful and accessible, inspiring confidence, curiosity, and perseverance in our haumāna. While he truly loved teaching, he loved his haumāna even more—always leading with kindness, patience, and an unwavering belief in their ability to succeed.
During this time of loss, we ask that you continue to keep Dr. Rose in your thoughts and prayers, and to support your keiki as they process this loss in their own way. His impact extended far beyond the classroom, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. Please also keep his ʻohana—Nikki, Tatum, his mother, and his sister - Trustee Crystal Rose and all who loved him—in your prayers, surrounding them with strength, comfort, and aloha.
At school as we finish off this school year, we will work internally to ensure that haumāna enrolled in his classes will be supported as Dr. Rose would have wanted.
E hele a moe me Niolopua.
Naʻu ihola, na Kumu Lehua
Starting in the summer of 2026, Poʻo Kumu Lehua Veincent will be stepping into a new K-12 role as the Head of Student Health and Well-Being. This role was created to uplift and enhance the systems that care for our haumāna-from Kula Haʻahaʻa through Kula Kiʻekiʻe, in areas such as safety, mental health, counseling, and overall well-being. It reflects a commitment to ensuring that every haumana is supported in consistent, culturally informed, haumana-centered ways.
Kumu Lehua is not leaving Kula Kiʻekiʻe. This is not a goodbye.
He was invited into this new role because of his strong pilina with our haumāna, the trust he has built over many years, and his steady, thoughtful leadership. His presence at Kula Kiʻekiʻe will remain strong. For now, nothing changes. Kumu Lehua will continue to serve as our Kula Kiʻekiʻe Poʻo Kumu through the end of this school year.
Mahalo nui for the aloha you continue to show to one another, to our haumāna, and to our entire kauhale. We are committed to keeping you informed and uplifted as we move through this transition together, for someone as beloved and held as our Kumu Lehua.
At Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Kula Kiʻekiʻe, our ʻOhana Presence approach is a comprehensive, five-prong program designed to engage families in meaningful and impactful ways. This program focuses on:
Understanding the shared responsibility of education
Recognizing how your engagement directly influences student success
Providing you with the knowledge and resources to support your student’s educational journey
Creating opportunities for families to actively participate in school activities
Celebrating and recognizing your student's accomplishments
Aloha e nā ʻohana o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi Kula Kiʻekiʻe,
As we approach the close of this school year, we pause with deep gratitude for the journey.
This has been a year grounded in connection and growth. It has been an honor to spend time in spaces with you, whether at gatherings, workshops, meetings, or moments of celebration. Your presence and manaʻo have strengthened our kaiāulu in meaningful ways, and your intentional engagement uplifts our haumāna and community.
We also continue to hold with gratitude the milestone shared earlier this year. Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha will move to a tuition-free model beginning June 1, 2026, a powerful reflection of Ke Aliʻi Pauahi’s enduring legacy. It reminds us of the kuleana we share in uplifting and sustaining this gift for future generations.
As we move into the final weeks of the year, we encourage our ʻohana to remain present in these moments with your haumāna. This season invites reflection and celebration, and your continued aloha and presence matter deeply.
Mahalo nui for all that you do to support your keiki and our lāhui. We look forward to continuing this work together.
Me ka ʻoiaʻio,
Keala Campbell

Aloha e nā ʻohana o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi Kula Kiʻekiʻe,
Looking toward 2026, my heartfelt wish is that love and light continue to guide your paths. May the new year bring renewed purpose, abundant opportunities, and the courage to walk boldly in the gifts and kuleana entrusted to each of us. We remain reflective of the work that we have done – working tirelessly but with intention and purpose upon the foundation of our people and our land. We work towards holding firm the importance of mo’okūʻauhau (genealogy), mō’aukala (history), ‘āina (land), ‘ōlelo (language), ‘ike kupuna (ancestral intelligence) and ‘ike hana (practices). We set our stance in both traditional and contemporary knowledge so our children, our people will be able to traverse upon their individual journeys through the on-going uncertainty of what awaits them. Mahalo to all of our ‘ohana for your strength and fortitude, pono and aloha… for your keiki and our school.
Aloha
Na’u ihola, na Kumu Lehua
