Welcome We have really enjoyed meeting and getting to know your children over the last few days! They have started to settle in well at KPJS.
The children will be looking at various areas in Mathematics. This will include Place Value, Addition and subtraction, Measure-area and Multiplication and Division.
One of our main focus will be the multiplication assessment in June. The children will have the opportunity to practice their tables in school and at home using the online websites that we have signed up to. They are -

Mathshed (found in Spelling Shed) Please spend at least 10 minutes everyday helping your child become an expert in multiplications.
This will include reading, writing, speaking and listening, drama, handwriting, grammar and spelling. Written work will include two Fiction units- The Iron Man and the Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse our third unit is a poetry unit- Still I Rise. In grammar, we will look at the effective use of pronouns, fronted adverbials, understanding conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions to express time and cause. We will be reading both nonfiction and fiction books this term and these books will link up with Destination Reader.
Your child will receive spelling homework every Thursday. These spellings should be learnt over the week ready for a spelling test the following Thursday. Children will also need to complete the activities at the back of their spelling sheet to ensure understanding of the correct spelling words.
Your child has been given a reading record which they need to complete daily, after at least 15 minutes of reading. Please ensure that you read with your child on as many occasions a week as you can. It is the most effective academic help you can provide.
Your child will be given 4 pieces of homework each week. This will be given out on a Friday and due in the following Thursday. This will consist of 4 pieces of work; SPaG, Maths, Times tables and Topic. Please ensure your children copy all their homework into their purple homework book. On some occasions your child will need to complete certain homework online in Google classroom. The multiplication homework can be found online in the Classroom. In addition to this homework please make sure your child is reading every day and learns their spellings.

Year 4 will be performing the Autumn term production. Your child will be given a script with the lines they need to learn later on in the term. You may need to provide a costume for your child. Please use clothes from home before spending money on an expensive costume. The production takes place in December.
