Year 6
Autumn 1- Eye of the Wolf
Daily Reading sessions and phonics interventions begin.
Children learn the expected behaviours for Destination Reading lessons.
These include: partner work, group discussions and paired reading.
The wolf has lost nearly everything on his journey to the zoo, including an eye and his beloved pack.
The boy too has lost much and seen many terrible things.
They stand eye to eye on either side of the wolf's enclosure and, slowly, each makes his own extraordinary story known to the other.
Autumn 2-Coming to England
Floella Benjamin was just a young girl when she, her sister and two brothers arrived in England in 1960 to join their parents, whom they had not seen for fifteen months.
They had left the island paradise of Trinidad to make a new home in London - part of a whole generation of West Indians, known as the Windrush generation.
They were encouraged to move to Britain and help rebuild the country after the Second World War.
Autumn 2- The Highway Man
The poem, set in 18th-century rural England, tells the story of an unnamed highwayman who is in love with Bess, a landlord's daughter.
Betrayed to the authorities by Tim, a jealous ostler, the highwayman escapes ambush when Bess sacrifices her life to warn him.
Spring 1- Once
Once is a 2005 children's novel by Australian author Morris Gleitzman.
It is about a Jewish boy named Felix who lived in Poland and is on a quest to find his book-keeper parents.
He sees Nazis burning the books from a Catholic orphanage in which had stayed at for 3 years and 8 months.
Spring 2- Romeo and Juliet
"But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun... "
A beautiful retelling of Shakespeare's most famous love story.
With Notes on Shakespeare and the Globe Theatre and Love and Hate in Romeo and Juliet.
Summer 1- Martin Luther King Biography
Martin Luther King, Jr., was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and '60s.
He was a leader of the American civil rights movement.
He organised a number of peaceful protests as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including the March on Washington in 1963.
Summer 2- Kensuke's Kingdom
Kensuke's Kingdom is a treat for lovers of drama-filled stories.
It tells of how a young boy named Michael mysteriously disappears the night before his twelfth birthday.
The next morning, Michael finds himself washed up on a beach on a remote island with a bowl of water and some grilled fish next to him.
