At Kenmore, we really encourage all children to read a range of books at home.
Reading has so many brilliant benefits for children and can open a whole new world for them.
Giving a child time and full attention when reading them a story tells them they matter.
It builds self-esteem, vocabulary, feeds imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns.
Children at KPJS take home two books: a levelled Bug Club book and a reading for pleasure book
All children and parents are expected to fill in a daily reading log- online or in writing to showcase what children have been reading.
As a school, we work very closely with the Harrow Library Services.
Harrow Libraries have a range of regular activities including arts and crafts, rhymetime and storytime sessions, and social clubs.
Take your child on a regular basis and borrow a range of books that interest them.
You can log any library books your child has read in their reading records/ logs.
All children are sent books at their levels to read at home with an adult or independently.
Depending on the year group, reading logs are filled in online or in reading record books.
We expect children and parents to fill in their reading logs at a minimum of 4 times a week.
These are really important as they inform teachers of what children are reading at home.
They act as dialogue between parents and teachers.
Reading should be a part of every child's daily routine, e.g. reading a bed time story.
Encourage reading to be a habit or pass time
Take books with you on outings and read in different places! the car, the park, on a cosy chair, at the dentist or even up a tree!
We have joined the nation and embraced the 100 Books challenge which encourages chidren to read quality texts!
All books can be found in the school library or class book corners
Some have been covered in the curriculum
