Accelerated Math - 6 6^th Grade Student Syllabus

WHAT WILL THE STUDENT’S LEARN?

Students will determine prime factorization, LCM, GCF, and work through expressions with whole and rational numbers. Students will explore rates and ratios also and apply what they know to solving single step equations and inequalities. They will also explore geometric concepts including surface area and volume. In addition, students will explore Integer Operations, Algebraic Expressions, Equations, Proportions, and Percents. Students will apply their knowledge of these functions to solve real world applications.

HOW WILL THE STUDENT’S BE ASSESSED?

Students will be formatively assessed by mid chapter quizzes and daily observations. Summative assessments will be in the form of chapter tests, periodic unit projects, and cumulative tests (every 3 chapters). Homework is assigned daily except on test days. Students will be assessed based on total points each quarter.

Calculator: TI 30 X II S (provided for classroom use)

2 Single Subject Notebooks

1 Two-inch, 3-Ring Binder

1 Set of plastic index tabs (at least 6)

2 Folders w/Pockets

2-3 Packs of Hole Reinforcers

Pencils

Highlighter

Plug-In Earbuds

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THIS COURSE?

This is the highest level Math course offered to 6^th Grade students. It is designed for the elite Math student who is intrinsically motivated and works hard. Students successfully completing this course will move into Accelerated Math - 7 as a 7^th Grade student. Many materials can be found on our website:
