Thank you for visiting my Google Site. Please feel free to look around and click on different tabs and links to find out more information about my classes. Students received a more detailed version of my course syllabus (including class codes for the Remind app) via Google Classroom and they were instructed to share it with you too. After viewing it, please make sure that both you and your student have completed an E-Signature acknowledgement form (see the link below)
Teachers will be taking attendance daily and students will have daily attendance attendance assignments to complete in the beginning of class. In my class, students are expected to log in and attend virtual class meetings on Google Meet during their scheduled class times. (Students can find the link for Google Meet in the Google Classroom banner at the top of the page).
In order to maintain a productive learning environment, students are required to keep their cell phones (and earphones) away in their backpacks. - This includes listening to music, texting friends or family, taking video/photos of others in the class, gaming and social media. Students who are unable to practice self control will receive one verbal warning; upon the second infraction, their device(s) will be sent to the office for parent pick up. If you need to get a hold of your child during class-time, please call the main phone line at Konawaena High School (808)313-6000
Students are expected to bring their school issued Chromebook or personal laptop and charger daily, and use them for course-related work only.
· Be respectful to yourselves, everyone, and everything to maintain a positive learning environment
· Be prompt and prepared: Be in your seat when the class starts and bell rings, with all materials for class. (You must bring your laptop and charger daily).
· Be present: Participate in class discussions and activities, students are required to keep cell phones and earphones away in their backpacks (This includes texting, listening to music, taking photos/videos, gaming and/or social media) unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
· Consume food and drinks before/after class. (exception of water; stay hydrated!)
· Be responsible for your own learning: Complete and submit quality work in a timely manner, If you are absent, you are still responsible to complete missing assignments. Check learning platforms i.e. Google Classroom, communicate with your teacher and ask questions if needed. (Late work will gladly be accepted for a reduction in points for the assignment - no greater than a B.) Cheating, copying, and plagiarism (including letting someone copy) will not be tolerated, and will result in a zero without make-ups.
· Online distance learning expectations: Students are expected to attend class daily; teachers will be inputting attendance daily for all students in all classes. Teacher attendance and instruction will begin promptly (please email or use the remind app to communicate with your teacher if you are experiencing any issues). While attending class online, turn your video on, and keep your mic muted unless you are speaking. Please also ensure that your learning environment at home is conducive to learning and all school rules and Chapter 19 regulations still apply.
Ms. Hirowatari will be using the following resources in her classes. To find out more information about them, and how you can stay informed with your child's progress in class, please click on the tabs below.
Infinite Campus is the Hawai'i Department of Education's official data management system. All teachers use Infinite Campus to take daily attendance and regularly input grades.
Parents should track their child's attendance and progress in each of their classes through Infinite Campus. Parents will receive their own login information through the school that they can use with the Infinite Campus website as well as a through a free downloadable app. Those who choose to use the app will get real-time notifications and updates.
Google Classroom is a educational tool where students are able to access lessons, instructional content, get announcements and complete and submit assignments in their online classrooms.
When parents provide the teacher with their email address, Ms. Hirowatari will invite you to join the Google class. In doing so, this will allow parents to view their child's classes and their classwork on this learning platform. Parents can also subscribe to get email summaries to view their progress (including missing and upcoming work).
Click this link to get more information about guardian email summaries in Google Classroom.
The Remind App is a free, downloadable app for your smart phone or other device. This educational tool allows teachers to relay information to parents, and students, and visa-versa, similar to text messaging. When you sign up and communicate with your child's teacher, your contact information (including your phone number and email) will remain completely private. Please turn on notifications to stay up to date.
A hard copy version of the syllabus with the class code allowing you to join was sent home with your child and/or posted on Google Classroom. Ms. Hirowatari can also send you the code through a parent email if requested.
Students at Konawaena can use the Acellus program by visiting the following link. Ms. Hirowatari may use Acellus to supplement skills and concepts being taught in class.
