Welcome to my class

This is going to be where I keep nearly all the information you will need in class. The tabs at the top of the page are the current classes that I have scheduled, along with sub-pages for specific units along with my syllabus. This will also mean that if you miss a day of school, all information you may need is found here.

My goal is to treat you as a young adult, not a child. I believe that is the only way you will truly learn. I keep my classroom loose and fun. I understand that life happens, and all I ask is that you do your best. The only way you can fail this class, is if you want to fail.

While success is never promised, it is earned.

With that, I look forward to working with you and helping to continue the proud tradition that Kasson-Mantorville schools has developed over the years.

About Me

I was born and raised in Rochester. After I graduated from Mayo High School, I attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduated with my B.A.A in Secondary Education, with my emphasize in Social Studies. In 2008 I moved to Missouri with my finance . I spent the next several years working at Glendale High School, in Springfield, MO. I taught 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. I have taught nearly every subject they offered (US History, World History, Government, Psychology, Economics, and Holocaust).

I was also the Student Council sponsor for 5 years. That experience was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had. I was privileged to work with 12 students that made up the Student Council Cabinet and planned nearly every activity at the school. These students are so dear to me that I consider them like my own children, and still to this day keep in contact with them.

For the last several years, I helped create the QUEST@GHS program that used Project Based Learning as the main learning model. In Quest I taught combined classes; American Studies (English I and US History), World of Thought (World History and Humanities), and Political Studies (Government and Economics).

Along with classroom teaching, I was also one of Springfield Public Schools online teachers for several years. I mainly taught Government online, but also taught Psychology.

I graduated with my Masters in Educational Leadership in 2014 from Missouri State University. I also have been privileged to speak at 2 educational conferences (once at the Innovators in Education Conference, and once at the New Tech Network Annual National Conference). During the 2016-17 school year I was nominated by several students and parents for Teacher of the Year in the Springfield Public School district, and voted Person of the Year in 2010 by the school newspaper The Quill.

On a more personal note. I have been married to my best friend, Brooke since 2008. She just finished her Nurse Practitioners program and is getting set up to take her boards and become a certified Nurse Practitioner, after being a RN for the last 12 years. We have 2 children, Benjamin and Madelynn (twins) who are 6 years old. And a nearly 3 year old German Shepard Dog named Ragnar.

I am excited to be back in Southeast Minnesota, close to family and friends. Since the day I accepted the position here at Kasson-Mantorville, I have felt the #KoMetPride from everyone I have met and cannot wait to continue the #KoMetExcellence that has been created here.
