Research Projects [updated 4/16/21]

    • Current ProjectsDoE project: Accelerating additive manufacturing process design for energy conversion materials using in-situ sensing and machine learning (DoE 2019-2021)

    • APEX project ( US Airforce Small Business Innovative Research/Small Business Technology (2019-2021) Transition Research) - This project focuses on using natural language processing and big data mining to understand and foster collaborations, specifically in the air force base. Funded by USAF.

    • Pain Management in Sickle Cell patients - This project focuses on the use of wearable devices for managing pain in Sickle cell disease patients. Clinical notes from the EHR data are also leveraged to understand pain symptoms. (NIH 2018-2022)

    • Dementia - This project focuses on the use of smartphone technology along with monitoring physiological symptoms of dementia patients and their caregivers using wearable sensors. (NIH K01 2016-2021, NIH R01 Supplement 2021-2022)

  • Past Projects

    • Asthma management in pediatric patients using environmental and wearable sensors (PI: Amit Sheth)

    • Gender Based Violence Studies: please see our preliminary work on analyzing gender based violence content using Big Data. We used Twitter data to study the behavior of people across different countries, times, and genders. Please see the paper for more details.
